Biography:
Born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1960, James moved to Madison in 1988 after graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in English. He founded White Hawk Press in 1993 and published several books of literary interest including two collections of essays on Wisconsin author August Derleth (Return To Derleth, Selected Essays, 1993; Return To Derleth: Selected Essays, Vol. II, 1995). His first novel, Bourland, was published by The Other Door Press (a fantasy specialty publisher) of Canada in 1999 and a collection of fantasy & science fiction stories, Darkling I Listen, And For Many A Time...And Other Imaginations in 1995, also by The Other Door. After a series of articles on Wisconsin authors appeared in Badger Books Quarterly, in 2002 the book Famous Wisconsin Authors was published by Badger Books as the first in their 'Famous Wisconsin' series of non-fiction books. James has had several poetry collections published, including Dancing With Poltergeists by Popcorn Press in 2008 and A Demon In My View by Pickle Barrel Press in 2014. James currently lives in Madison where he is the South-Central Region Vice-President for the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and has been the subject of a feature article in the Wisconsin State Journal and an appearance on Wisconsin Public Television program 'Wisconsin Life' about the Little Free Library movement, of which he has long been involved and continues to oversee the Little Free Library of Madison Facebook page.
